Why You Need a Asbestos Survey
Asbestos is the single greatest cause of work-related deaths in the UK. The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 places a duty to manage asbestos in non-domestic premises and the common areas of residential buildings. If you own or manage a building built before 2000, you have a legal duty to know whether asbestos is present and to manage it safely. Disturbing unknown asbestos during renovation work can have serious health consequences.
Duty to Manage
The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 requires the dutyholder (typically the building owner or manager) to manage asbestos in non-domestic premises.
Before Renovation
A Refurbishment/Demolition Survey is legally required before any building work in properties built before 2000.
Common Areas
The duty to manage extends to common areas of residential buildings (stairwells, corridors, plant rooms).
Penalties
Failure to comply with asbestos regulations can result in unlimited fines and imprisonment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about our Asbestos Survey service.
When was asbestos banned in the UK?+
Asbestos was fully banned in the UK in 1999. Any property built or refurbished before 2000 may contain asbestos-containing materials.
What's the difference between a Management Survey and a Refurbishment Survey?+
A Management Survey identifies ACMs that could be disturbed during normal occupancy and maintenance. A Refurbishment Survey is more intrusive and is required before any building work to identify all ACMs that might be disturbed.
How long does an asbestos survey take?+
A management survey of a standard property takes 1-2 hours. Lab results are typically available within 2-3 working days.
What happens if asbestos is found?+
If ACMs are in good condition and unlikely to be disturbed, they can be managed in place with an asbestos management plan. If they're damaged or need to be removed for building work, specialist asbestos removal is required.
